Welcome to the Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists (LNWC) web site. We are a chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation (NCWF) - a community based organization established for the purposes of environmental education, appreciation of wildlife and natural history, and conservation of wildlife habitat and natural resources.

  Vision Statement

“The Vision of the Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists is to protect and enhance the natural resources and wildlife habitats of the greater Lake Norman area, for all to enjoy.”

Volunteers Needed

Hello Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists  (LNWC) supporters! Volunteer opportunities for the “2015 LNWC Wild Over LKN Spring Fling” are now open!
The event is scheduled for this Saturday, April 18 from 10:00 A.M. until 4:00 P.M @ LangTree Lake Norman (address: 401 Langtree Road, Mooresville, NC 28117). Please click on the following web link (or copy it into your web browser if clicking doesn’t work) to go to the signup sheet: https://www.volunteersignup.org/JLJRL

To sign up, just follow the instructions on the page. It only takes a few seconds to do.  Many volunteer duties are listed and divided into different shifts.  Please consider volunteering for multiple duties and/or multiple shifts.  Volunteers are asked to arrive at LangTree Lake Norman and check into the LNWC booth at least 15 minutes before your shift.

All new volunteers will receive an LNWC T-shirt (royal blue).  Volunteers who have received one of these shirts in the past are asked to bring it to the event. I would like to extend sincere gratitude to our volunteers on behalf of the LNWC Board of Directors; your generosity ensures the success of our organization.

Please email me if you have any questions. Also, please feel free to forward this message to your friends, family, and anyone you think would like to volunteer for the event!

Thank you for volunteering!

Spring Fling

Spring is in the air! “All Things Nature” is the theme for Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists’ first Earth Day event called LNWC Spring Fling. This free community event will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 18, at LangTree Lake Norman, 401 Langtree Road in Mooresville, off of I-77’s Exit 31.

Featured will be exhibits from local nurseries, landscapers, outdoor specialty stores and outdoor-themed organizations, as well as music, food, beverages, art, and hands-on nature crafts. Participants can learn how to put together a wildlife-friendly yard. Experts will speak on subjects like “Bird-Brained Gardening” and “Aliens Among Us.”

A chapter of the North Carolina Wildlife Federation, LNWC’s mission is to protect and enhance wildlife habitat in the Lake Norman area. Just last fall, LNWC helped LangTree Lake Norman get its designation as a Certified Wildlife Habitat. For more information click HERE, contact Don West at donw@LNWC.org or call 704-231-3317.

Next Educational Program

Our next educational program speaker will be David Deaton, fish production supervisor for the Commission’s Division of Inland Fisheries of the NC Wildlife Resources Commission.  Program will be held on Thursday, May 14, starting at 7:00 PM at the Mooresville Public Library. For more information contact Sid Smith, education director, at 704-895-5686 or email us at info@LNWC.org.

Heron Rookery Boat Tour

This spring, the Lake Norman Wildlife Conservationists (LNWC) are offering free boat tours of the Great Blue Heron Rookery! The tours are scheduled for Saturday, April 25 and Saturday, May 2, both beginning at 10:00 AM.

If you have never seen a heron rookery or observed the raucous squawking of the adults as they defend their nests, eggs, and chicks, you are in for a real surprise. Space is limited so reservations are required. Click HERE for more information and to make your reservations.
