TIMEFRAME:  Now/Ongoing, Fall for Island Herpetology “Inventory”

BRIEF DESCRIPTION:

This program consists of activities associated with monitoring wildlife populations in the following categories in/around Lake Norman :

  •  Reptiles and Amphibians

  •   Owls and Osprey

  • Cavity Nest Box Bird Species

These are on going activities.   Additionally, there will be a specific project to inventory the reptile and amphibian populations on the Lake Norman Islands, examining the aspects of island biogeography theory (basically, larger islands closer to the mainland have more species than smaller, further islands).

All of these monitoring programs support ecological based conservation research that is being conducted by Davidson College , UNCC, the Carolina Raptor Center , or Mecklenburg County Parks and Recreation.

PROJECT LEAD:  Bill Mugg (billmugg@roadrunner.com, 704-662-7970)
